Looks like a Belgium court has join’d the Brazilians in not understanding the internet. In a case recently, they upheld an injunction against Google in Belgium for linking to newspaper articles.
Quite why the newspapers didn’t use robots.txt (a standard to block search engines from parts of a website you don’t want spidered) instead of going to court is unclear – some sugest it was an attempt to force Google to pay for indexing its news.
Why the judge didnt suggest to the complaining newspapers that they use the well established methods such as robots.txt I dont know. Instead the court has ordered Google to respond to emails within 24 hours to remove content.
Presumably the Judge thinks email is like a telegram and at that the other end some Normal Rockwell freckled tyke delivers emails by cycling around on his push bike in the traditional paper boy style.
